Dear reader,
On taking the leap
Two things that you need to have in place when you take the leap:
Mental resilience
Being fully convinced of your ‘why’
As soon as you leave your job, people around you will start asking questions like ‘are you sure leaving your job was the right decision?’, ‘what next?’, ‘so what are you doing these days?’.
Honestly, I have flipped out at a few people closest to me for asking these questions. But you can’t shut everyone.
How to deal with these pesky questions?
Build a LOT of mental strength and patience.
Find a straightforward answer that works for you (it will require some hit and trial).
Another thing that’ll help you is knowing your ‘why?’ - why you took the leap - only you would know it best. With time we tend to forget it.
Write down your ‘why(s)’ somewhere before taking the leap. And keep going back to it whenever you feel doubtful of your decision.
It’s also easy to doubt yourself when you see your peers make career progress.
Whenever I see posts about someone joining one of my (once) dream companies, the first thought that pops into my mind is - Should I also apply for a job there? But then I remind myself of all the reasons WHY I left my corporate job.
You have to keep backing yourself up!
On mindfulness
A beautiful thought from my yoga teacher’s teacher - when they were asked how they meditate:
They said that they didn’t need a particular time or a specific spot to sit and meditate. They are meditating all the time by just fully focusing on the task at hand.
If they are eating, then they are just eating. If they are doing yoga, then their mind is fully into yoga.
Such a simple yet powerful tool it seems: being present in the moment!
I’ll leave you with that.
Load up on all things indulgent this weekend!
Wish you a warm and cozy Christmas!
See you next week,
Love,
Simar
